Psychoeducational Testing

for Children & Teens

What is Psychoeducational Testing?

Psychoeducational testing helps uncover why a child may be struggling at school, at home, or with peers. These evaluations explore how a child thinks, learns, remembers, and manages emotions — giving parents and educators the information they need to support success.

At Anxiety Specialists of Atlanta, we specialize in providing thorough, personalized evaluations for children and teens ages 6–16.

Testing can help answer important questions like:

  • Could my child have ADHD, dyslexia, or a learning difference?
  • Are anxiety, depression, or emotional factors affecting schoolwork?
  • Is my child gifted or twice-exceptional?
  • Are social difficulties possibly related to autism?

Who Might Benefit from Testing?

Psychoeducational evaluations are helpful when a child is:

    • Having trouble paying attention, staying organized, or completing tasks
    • Struggling with reading, math, writing, or overall academic performance
    • Showing changes in mood, motivation, or behavior
    • Having difficulty making or keeping friends
    • Not reaching expected developmental milestones…

Even highly capable students can benefit from testing if they aren’t performing at their potential or if learning challenges are suspected!

What Areas Do We Assess?

Our comprehensive evaluations explore:

  • Cognitive skills (like reasoning, problem-solving, and memory)
  • Academic achievement in reading, writing, and math
  • Attention, focus, and executive functioning (planning, organization)
  • Emotional and behavioral functioning (anxiety, depression)
  • Autism-related social skills and behaviors (screening only)
  • Giftedness and school preparedness (advanced abilities combined with challenges)

Each evaluation is individually tailored based on your child’s specific concerns.

What is the Process Like?

We aim to make the experience clear, supportive, and efficient.

1. Virtual Intake Session
We begin with a meeting to learn about your child’s strengths, challenges, and background. This helps us tailor the evaluation to their needs.

2. In-Person Testing Session
Your child will come to our Dunwoody office for an in-person appointment lasting about 3–5 hours. We create a relaxed, encouraging environment so children feel comfortable doing their best.

3. Scoring and Interpretation
After testing, your psychologist will carefully review and integrate the results into a comprehensive, easy-to-understand report.

4. Virtual Feedback Session
We meet again to walk through the findings, answer your questions, and provide clear, actionable recommendations for home, school, and (if needed) therapeutic support.
